Profile
I began my career in 1990 as a seconded student at Erste Bank in securities clearing and settlement; afterwards I switched to branch office sales, gaining almost four years experience there. Sales was an area with a high degree of diversity during very dynamic times for the Vienna Stock Exchange.
In the autumn of 1994, I completed an exchange programme at the renowned French École des hautes études commerciales (HEC) in Paris, specializing in the area of international finance, under the management of numerous recognized experts and practitioners.

We are successful, not when we use others, but only when we are of use to them.
After my time as a sales assistant at Société Générale in Paris in Fixed Income and Derivatives Sales, I moved back to Vienna into Institutional Bond Sales at Erste Bank. At Erste Bank, I was primarily responsible for building up a foreign client base for bonds. The clients included banks and investment companies in Austria and abroad.
After this, in the autumn of 1995, I received an offer from what was then Creditanstalt-Bankverein. As CA-BV was then in a state of transition in its Fixed Income Sales department, I was able to acquire both large Austrian investors and numerous foreign investors as clients. The products included a range of plain vanilla government bonds as well as structured products from the fixed income segment, which were becoming increasingly popular at the time.
As I wished to gain more experience abroad, in the summer of 1997 I took the opportunity in Paris to join Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, and respectively at its subsidiary CDC Marchés, to completely build up bond and derivatives sales for Austrian customers. The product portfolio covered the spectrum from simple government bonds, mortgage bonds and structured products, to OTC options on bonds as well as complex equity structured products. As a result of the success achieved, my team expanded continuously.
In the spring of 2000 I was contacted by what was then the rather small Meinl Bank in Austria.

There I held the position of group leader of the fixed income desk, and was product specialist for all bonds and fixed-income products. One specialisation that I acquired in Paris and was able to deepen significantly at Meinl Bank was so-called “Sales Trading” in semi-liquid bonds and non-liquid bonds, where I attained a high market share. In addition, I was responsible for secondary market trading in structured products, which developed very dynamically, particularly in the last few years. The in-house Internet-based fair value assessment method applied was also a great advantage. In this area, the bank was certainly one of the market leaders for a relatively long period.
Apart from product responsibility I also had, of course, client responsibility. The emphasis here was on banks and funds and some insurance companies in Austria as well as on real estate funds in France and private banks in Switzerland and Monaco. Beyond this, I also maintained numerous contacts with Liechtenstein and Luxembourg. My specialty was business development with new customers. This field of activity is something I enjoy very much and this helped me to conclude my first business transactions with clients from the Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), primarily on the equity side.
